Sollefteå

Sollefteå is a town in the Swedish province Västernorrland County and the historic Ångermanland. Sollefteå is located north of Sundsvall on Ångermanälven and is the capital of the municipality of the same name.

History

The first time Sollefteå was mentioned in the 1270s. In 1602 a market was created and Sollefteå developed into an important trading center. In the 17th century, several sawmills were established, and in the 18th century ironworks. End of the 19th century, although the ironworks were closed down, but Sollefteå developed into an important garrison town. Sollefteå market in 1902 and was granted town rights in 1917. In 2000, the garrison was disbanded.

Attractions

In the center, designed by architects Heligoland Zettervall Courthouse ( Tingshuset ) is in the style of the Swedish National Romanticism. Even the abandoned barracks of the regiment T3 by Erik Josephson is a listed building today.

When transmission tower Multrå 1988 issued fallen down peak as a result of icing - a monument that illustrates the forces of nature.

Sports

Sollefteå hosted the Nordic World Ski Championships 1934.
