Somali constitutional referendum, 1961

A constitutional referendum was held in Somalia on June 20, 1961 to vote on the new constitution for the country.

The Constitution was created a year earlier by a Union from the Italian Trust Territory of Somalia and British Somaliland. The Constitution was approved by 90.56 percent of voters.

In northern Somalia, where many felt marginalized in the overall structure Somalia, the agreement was less than 50 %, although this was significant because of the small population of the North little.
