Somali parliamentary election, 1964
The parliamentary elections in Somalia in 1964 were the first elections after the independence of Somalia in 1960.
Somalia was created from the union of British Somaliland and the Italian Trust Territory of Somalia. Here also the parliaments of the two territories were merged. The last time was in Italian Somaliland in 1959 and in British Somaliland elected in 1960.
Results
The Somali Youth League ( SYL ) won 69 of 123 seats. 22 seats went to the Somali National Congress ( SNC), 15 to the Somali Democratic Union ( SDU), nine of the Hizbia Mustaqil Dastur al - Sumal ( HDMS ) and eight to other parties.
