Somluck Kamsing

Somluck Kamsing (also Kamsing, Somluck Khamsing or Somrak; Thai สม รักษ์ คำ สิงห์, born January 16, 1973 in Khon Kaen ), is a former Thai boxer and Muay Thai fighter. Kamsing was bronze medalist of the Asian Championship in 1992 and 2002 and winner of Asian Championships in 1994, the Southeast Asian Games in 1995, the Asian Games in 1994 and 1998 and the Olympic Games in 1996. Moreover, participants in the 1992 Olympic Games was in 2000 and 2004

Career

Boxing

Kamsing won the 1992 Featherweight ( -57 kg ) bronze medal at the Asian Championships. He qualified for the first time for the Olympic Games, where he won the first fight against Michael Strange, Canada ( 11:9 ), but in the second round later in the silver medalist Faustino Reyes, Spain ( 24:15 ) failed.

1994 won Kamsing both at the Asian Championships and Asian Games gold medal. The Asian Championship 1995 ended for him, however, in the preliminary round with a defeat against eventual champion Bakhtiyar Tilegenov Asia, Kazakhstan ( 5:3 ). However, he was soon back to its former strength back and won the 1995 Southeast Asian Games and the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, the first Olympic gold medal for Thailand. Kamsing edged the Puerto Rican Luis Seda ( 13:2 ), the South African Philip N'dou ( 12:7 ), the Russians Ramaz Paliani ( 13:4 ), the Argentinean Pablo Chacón ( 20:8 ) and in the final 8: 5 points to the Bulgarians Serafim Todorov, who had defeated the local heroes Floyd Mayweather in the semifinals.

At the Asian Games in 1998 Kamsing won again the gold medal, which he defeated in the final Uzbeks Tulkunbay Turgunov ( 8:3 ). Against those same he also won the final of the World Cup in the same year in Beijing ( 8:4 ). At the World Championships the following year he had to admit defeat, however Turgunov ( 10:2 ), which won the silver medal here, and thus different from the quarter-finals. He got no further also at the Olympic Games 2000. According victories over Andres Ledesma, Colombia (RSC 4 ), and Turgunov ( 7:2 ), he retired in the quarterfinals against Ricardo Juarez, USA (RSC 4 ), from.

2001 Kamsing rose to the lightweight (-60 kg) and met at the 2001 World Championships back to its permanent opponent Turgunov, which he had to be beaten again, this time ( 13:9 ). At the Asia Championships 2002, he won again the bronze medal, the 2004 Olympic Games ended for him, however, already in the first fight against Benoit Gaudet, Canada ( 32:17 ).

Muay Thai

At the age of 7 years Kamsing began with the Muay Thai training and also denied soon his first fights. At age 11, he went to Bangkok in the larger arenas to fight. Kamsing rose to one of the greatest Muay Thai fighter of all time, ranking the first place in the two largest Muay Thai arenas of Thailand. He played 304 fights, of which he won 291 and lost 12.

Others

Kamsing starred in several films with, among others, 2006, together with Jet Li in Fearless. He also began a singing career in 2006 and released an album and a music video.
