Sørvágur

Sørvágur [ sœrvɔavʊr ] ( Danish name: Sorvag ) is a place of the Faroe Islands in the west of the island Vágar.

To commune Sørvágur include from 1 January 2005, the villages Bøur and Gásadalur and the island of Mykines with her little same place. The upstream Holm Tindhólmur counts as this, but is not permanently inhabited.

Sørvágur situated by the fjord Sørvágsfjørður which forms the approach path for the adjacent airport Vágar simultaneously. The hotel Vágar is also part of the infrastructure of the place, and good shops. The seaport of Sørvágur, in addition to its importance for the local fishing industry is an important function in ferry traffic from the famous island Mykines.

In Sørvágur there is also a small museum, the Sørvágs Bygdarsavn. The place should have been already settled around the year 1000.
