Hvannasund

For the 1950 Commune formed Hvannasund includes the villages of Depil, Múli, Norðdepil and Norðtoftir, all located on the island Borðoy. Together, the municipality has 453 inhabitants ( 2002). The first mention of a settlement of Múli dates from the 13th century.

Hvannasund himself beside Viðareiði is the only place on Viðoy. It is also connected to Klaksvík since 1963 by a causeway with Norðdepil and since 1967 through two tunnels. Even by the ferries with the mail boat to the islands Masin Fugloy and Svinoy Hvannasund is traffic-technically important for the region of the northern islands.
