Steve Hislop

Steven "Steve Hizzy " Hislop ( born January 11, 1962 in Hawick, Scotland, † 30 July 2003 Teviothead, Roxburghshire, Scotland ) was a British motorcycle racer and was regarded as one of the fastest drivers in his home in the very popular road races.

Career

On the Isle of Man Hislop broke through in 1989 as the first driver to the magical 120 - mph barrier. Between 1989 and 1994 he won the Tourist Trophy eleven times. His driving skills he showed superiority in 1992, when he defeated Carl Fogarty on the factory Yamaha with its inferior 588 cc Norton rotary engine. In the 1990 season Hislop won the British 250 cc Championship, in 1995 and 2002, he became a British Superbike champion.

Fatal Accident

Steve Hislop drove alone a Robinson R44 helicopter ( aircraft registration mark: G- OUEL ) on 30 July 2003 from Hawick to Manchester to Barton Aerodrome ( ICAO code: EGCB ) under visual flight rules, when he came in dense clouds. In an attempt to fly the helicopter out of the clouds, the rotor blades of the main rotor touched the tail boom and destroyed them. The helicopter crashed and burned out. Steve Hislop arrived at the crash.
