Stožec (Prachatice District)

Stožec ( German Tusset ) is a municipality with 222 inhabitants ( 1 January 2004) in the Czech Republic. It is located 780 m above sea level in the valley of the Cold Moldova ( Studena Vltava ), a source of the river Vltava in Šumava., 5 km south-west to the neighboring Bavarian Haidmuehle consists in the abandoned village of Nové Údolí ( Neuthal ) a border crossing for walkers and cyclists.

History

Tusset was created in 1769 as a logging town in the Bohemian Forest. Prior to the 16th century, saw mills, as Bienert saw in the valley of the Cold Moldova operated. 1945/46, the Sudeten German residents were displaced as a result of the Beneš decrees from her home and confiscated without compensation.

Infrastructure

In 1910, the place with the commissioning of the railway line Prachatice - Tusset and on to Passau connection to the railway network. After the Second World War, the railway ceased operation on the German side. Today the railway line ends right at the border at Nové Údolí / Haidmuehle. In addition to local trains runs in the summer months, a continuous fast pair between Nove Udoli about Budweis to Prague. These trains take about 5:30 for the distance between the capital and the Bohemian Forest.

Nature

Stožec located in National Park Šumava. The landscape is characterized by a particular species. Of special importance was the area around Stožec in the reintroduction of the lynx and the Ural. Today, there are Stožec an information center of the National Park with exhibitions on nature of the Bohemian Forest and the regional geology.

Community structure

The municipality Stožec the towns of České Žleby include ( Bohemian tubes) and Dobra ( Guthausen ) and the hamlet Černý Kříž (black cross). The municipal area are today no longer inhabited hamlet Brod ( grass Furth ), Dolni Cazov, Horni Cazov ( lower and Oberzassau ), Krasna Hora ( Schoenberg ), Nové Údolí ( Neuthal ) Ovesná ( Habersdorf ) Radvánovice ( Schiller mountain) and Smolna Pec ( Pechofen ).

Attractions

  • Tussetkapelle ( Stožecká kaple ), wooden Marian pilgrimage chapel on the slope of the 1065 m high Stožec ( Tussetberg ), built in 1791 by Wallerner blacksmith James Klauser at the site of a smaller previous building in 1988 restored, re-consecrated in 1990 by the Budweiser Bishop Miloslav Vlk, an exact replica stands since 1985 in the Bavarian Philippsreut.
