Strömvallen

Strömvallen is a pure football stadium in the Swedish town of Gävle. It is the home ground of the Swedish football club Gefle IF.

The stadium Strömvallen got its name on July 3, 1923.

Prehistory - Strömdalens IP

Since the year 1892 there were in the city plans to create a new court, which would meet the growing demands of such a. In September 1900 the town representatives decided Gefle IF to provide a site for the new sports ground, other sports clubs should, however, may use the next space also. Three years later (1903 ) the new sports field was finished, and was now called Strömdalens IP ( Strömdalens Idrottsplats ). The place had a football field ( l00x64Meter ), a makeshift runway ( grass mats around the box ) and seating for 400 spectators.

The place in the next ten years, the sports field has been expanded, so got a proper career, new hardwood stands and changing rooms with showers (all 1907). In 1909, the city of Gävle took over the sports field management. On the occasion of 1915 takes place on the Swedish track and field championship Strömdalens IP 's career got a new tread of ash and the championship could be performed successfully before 5,000 spectators. In the years 1920-1923 the sports complex was completely rebuilt, so the football field were, like all arenas renewed, as well as a new covered grandstand for 1,600 spectators built ( beginning Sept. 1922).

Strömvallen (1923 to present)

On 3 July 1923, the modernized sports ground was inaugurated under the new name Strömvallen. Beginning of the 30s the football field on international dimensions has been extended and more general admission grandstands erected on the north and west side (completed 1933). In the 40s ran many firefighters Gefle IF and successfully took part in competitions. These included, inter alia, Henry Eriksson and Gunder Hägg. In addition, in 1949 the first world record for the stadium Strömvallen could be reported when the Swedish four times 1500 meters relay with the runners Olle Åberg, Ingvar Bengtsson, Gösta Bergkvist, Henry Eriksson this record aufstellte with 15:30,2 minutes.

In the winter months was used stadium for skating and bandy in this period ( 1920-1959 ). So was here in 1939, inter alia, the final of the Swedish Championships in bandy between IK Huge and Nässjö IF.

The mid-60s the grandstand were further expanded in Strömvallen that was there also necessary in the 70s and 80s, the football club Brynäs IF and later Gefle IF played in the first Swedish football league. Once in the city's new stadium was built in Gävle in 1984, the tracks were removed in Strömvallen, so the stadium was a pure football stadium.

For the 100th anniversary of the Swedish Sports Federation Strömvallen was added to the list of 100 Swedish sports historical sites.

After Gefle IF was ascended in 2004 in the Allsvenskan, before the 2005 season, the capacity expanded to 7,200 spectators.

  • The audience capacity now stands at 7,200 people.
  • The absolute public record comes from the Athletics wedding in the 40s. On July 29, 1942 9,333 spectators were counted. The record for a Bandyspiel with 8,426 spectators dates of 28 January 1951 played as against Forsbacka Bollnäs. In football, the record dates back to 1983, when Gefle IF played against IFK Gothenburg before 7,573 people.
  • The playing surface is artificial turf with grass heating and has the dimensions 100 x 65 meters.
