Suat Mamat

İsmail Suat Mamat ( born November 8, 1930 in Istanbul ) is a former Turkish football player and coach. Through his many years of service for Galatasaray Istanbul, he is strongly associated with this club. On fan and club sides, he is regarded as one of the greatest players in the club's history. Mamat was one of the first footballers of Turkey that could achieve spectacular goals by overhead kick. He also was known for his good athleticism for his handsome head balls. In the 1950s, several newspapers gave out two football posters, which showed Mamat once during an overhead kick and once during a diving header Balls. Playing career

Association

Mamat began playing football in the street and then played at Bakırkoy Sümerspor. In 1949 he moved from here to the capital at that giants Ankara Demirspor. In Demirspor Suat Mamat played for three seasons and subsequently joined in the summer of 1952 to Galatasaray. In the summer of 1959 Mamat expressed the desire to want to leave Galatasaray. Galatasaray offered him then the possibility to move abroad if he could find an interested buyer. Interest showed the Italian giants Lazio, who invited him for a trial. Mamat took part in the trial, but initially could not agree on contract terms with Lazio. Nevertheless, he acted with Galatasaray already his transfer from and bought himself free. After the move to Lazio failed because of differences, he decided with other clubs in Spain to negotiate, including Valencia and Atlético Madrid. In Spain, arrived he took part in a trial at FC Barcelona, negotiated in parallel, but also with FC Valencia and Betis Sevilla. Mamat had the decisive match between the Turkish national team and the Spanish national team scored the decisive goal for Turkey during qualifying for the FIFA World Cup in 1954 and was therefore known in Spain. From the summer of 1959 he took part with Galatasaray at the newly founded and nationally designed Süper Lig. In the seasons 1961/62 and 1962 /63 Turkish league was won. For the 1967/68 season he moved to another Istanbul club to Vefa Istanbul. Here he played another two seasons and finished in the summer of 1969 his active professional football playing career.

National

Mamat was first nominated as part of the qualification for the FIFA World Cup in 1954 for the Turkish selection. Turkey had here against Spain two relegation matches contest whose winner would qualify for the World Cup. Mamat made ​​his national team debut on March 14, 1954 in a 1-0 first-leg win in Istanbul.
