Südliche Altmark

In the administrative community in Southern Altmark Altmark Salzwedel in the northwest of the federal state of Saxony- Anhalt 18 municipalities were merged. Seat, but not a member of the administrative community, the city was Gardelegen.

The management community was founded on 1 January 2005 from the merger of the disbanded governing community Gardelegen - country (16 municipalities) and also resolved Verwaltungsgemeinschaft Mieste (10 municipalities).

On 1 July 2009, the municipalities Algenstedt and Schenkenhorst were incorporated into the city Gardelegen. Also by incorporation to Gardelegen eliminated on 1 January 2010 from the former member communities Jeseritz, Potzehne, Roxförde, Wannefeld, Wiepke and Zichtau.

The Management Community Southern Altmark was dissolved by a resolution of Parliament on January 1, 2011 and the incorporated municipalities in the Hanseatic City Guard Set, which this was the third largest municipality by area in Germany.
