Súdwest-Fryslân

Súdwest - Fryslân is a municipality in the Dutch province of Fryslân ( Friesland). It was formed on 1 January 2011 by the merger of the former municipalities Bolsward, Nijefurd, Sneek, Wûnseradiel and Wymbritseradiel. The new municipality has 82,632 inhabitants ( 1 January 2013) living in 69 settlements priorities.

95% of the council members of the affected communities and 54% of citizens surveyed have approved the merger community.

On January 1, 2014, the community is increased by a municipality part of Boarnsterhim.

Name

The name of the new community was initially Súdwest Fryslân ( German: West Friesland) determined. The area in which the new church is located, as Zuidwesthoek ( German: Southwest corner) known. Against the name stirs opposition, as it can lead to an incorrect geographical classification of the new community. In West Friesland is an area that lies to the north of the province of North Holland. The new church would but east of West Friesland.

The Council of the new municipality may choose a community name. One suggestion is Súdwestergo after the historic area Westergo.
