Süleyman Demirel

Sami Süleyman Demirel Gündoğdu ( born 1 November 1924 in Islâmköy, Isparta Province) was Heads of State and Prime Minister of Turkey.

Life

Demirel made ​​1948 a university degree in civil engineering from the Technical University of Istanbul. In the early 1950s he worked in the state's water authority Devlet Su İşleri, which he led from 1955.

In November 1979, Demirel was appointed again as prime minister. Also this term did not last long. Süleyman Demirel was 1987 chairman of the True Path Party and in this role in November 1991 for the seventh time Prime Minister of Turkey after an election victory over the then ruling Motherland Party. During his tenure, he pardoned 100 prisoners.

Süleyman Demirel received on 6 April 2000, the special stage of the Grand Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany by German President Johannes Rau, Rau was honored with the Great Turkish Merit.

Süleyman Demirel received on 9 May 2000 the highest decoration of the Republic of Albania.
