Takeshi Honda

Takeshi Honda (Japanese本田 武 史, Honda Takeshi, born March 23, 1981 in Kōriyama, Fukushima Prefecture) is a Japanese figure skater.

Honda began to train with his brother Hiroshi short track speed skating at the age of 9 years, but soon moved to figure skating. Considering that he started quite late with the figure skating, he quickly made great progress. At 14 he became the youngest Japanese champion figure skater in history. Overall, he won six national titles.

His first coach was Hiroshi Nagakubo. Later, he left Japan for the United States to train with Galina Smijewskaja. From there he moved again to Barrie, Canada to train at the Mariposa School of Skating in Douglas Leigh.

2002 and 2003, Honda won the bronze medal at the World Championships, respectively. He was the first Japanese figure skater since Minoru Sano 1977, which again was able to win a world championship medal. At the Olympic Games in 2002 Honda was fourth and thus missed a medal just barely. In 2004 and 2005 he was injured hardly deny competitions or forced to retire as the World Cup 2005. 2006, the six-time Japanese champion finally ended his career.
