Formation

It was the first album of the band, in which the artist Andreas Marschall drew the artwork for the album cover. Producer of the album was like on the two previous albums, and on the follow Kalle Trapp, the recordings took place in April / May 1990 again held in the Karo Studios in Hamburg. At the shooting was involved from gamma ray as a guest musician Kai Hansen, who contributed a guitar solo to the song " The Last Candle" and " Lost in the Twilight Hall " some passages sang. In addition, Piet had Sielck from the band Iron Savior as well as various studio engineers including Kalle Trapp as a background vocalist.

Style

Stylistically, this album marked the temporary end of the embossed Speed / Thrash Metal early phase of the band. In this increasingly found characteristic guitar breaks, polyphonic choral singing and tempochanges use, as well as the band is put forward slower pieces or ballads. Nevertheless, numerous bonds are included on the previous albums, which among other things means high tempo and rather simple riffs in the verses of the songs. However, the overall trend of musical development rather pointed the way to the musical sharply defined succession albums " Somewhere Far Beyond" (1992) and " Imaginations from the Other Side" (1995).

Especially fantasy and science - fiction literature formed the basis for the lyrics of the album. So the song "Traveller In Time" processes the SF novels of the Dune series by Frank Herbert. " Tommyknockers " and " Altair 4" based on Stephen King's novel The monster (English: The Tommyknockers ). With "Lord of the Rings " is J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings processed, which should be developed in the following years into a major issue. In addition to literary works, a film is converted lyrically, namely ET - The Extra-Terrestrial in the song " Goodbye My Friend ".

Effect and reception

The reviews of the album were unspectacular criticized after the previous album consistently good to very good. The magazine Rock Hard in 2001 took the album as a single work of the band in their list of Top 300 - The best albums of all time.

The songs on the album include since the publication of the fixed live repertoire of the band. On the 1992 recorded through in Japan "Tokyo Tales" live album were four songs of the album, more than from the at that time just current "Somewhere Far Beyond " album. In the 2003's double live album "Live" were still "Welcome to Dying ", " Lost in the Twilight Hall " and " Lord of the Rings " to the program.
