Tales of Mystery and Imagination is the debut album by The Alan Parsons Project 1976 published. This album is the first in a series of concept albums of the producer, composer and musician Alan Parsons.

Concept

Tales of Mystery and Imagination is based on selected works of author Edgar Allan Poe and voiced this to atmospheric way in a mixture of rock and symphonic music ( the Prelude of the play The Fall of the House of Usher used fragments from Claude Debussy's opera fragment of La chute de la maison Usher). Sets with quotes from the texts, the pieces convey impressively dark, melancholy atmosphere of Poe's works.

The storm track in The Fall of the House of Usher: Arrival II was added to dummy head stereophony.

Publications

1976 Alan Parsons and Eric Woolfson had sent to Orson Welles a script with narrative texts for instrumental pieces that Welles spoke on tape and sent back to the musicians. These recordings were used but only for presentation and promotion of the LP. For the 1987 released CD version of the album was digitally mixed and completely reworked. Here, Parsons and Woolfson added the recitations of the deceased in the meantime Orson Welles in the work. The CD first publication of the advertising text aloud so " dramatic new version " of the concept album was also the basis of which a special event. At the same time, the new version was released as a vinyl edition, but primarily the new medium should apply CD.

On 30 April 2007, a new " Deluxe Edition", which combines both the 1976 original and the remix of the 1987 on a double CD with demo versions and sound experiments appeared ( Mercury (Universal ) ASIN B000OFP8O4 ).
