Tamdhu distillery

Tamdhu is a whiskey distillery in Knockando, Morayshire, Scotland, and is the Whisky Speyside. It is located adjacent to the Knockando, Cardhu and Dailuaine distilleries. The name derives from the Gaelic and means little dark hill. The Visitor Centre is the distillery in the Scottish sorted lists of monuments in the C (S) category.

History

The distillery was founded in 1897 and sold two years later at Highland Distillers & Co. From 1927-1947 she was temporarily shut down. The Malthouse was renewed in 1951 and 1972 the number of stills was increased from two to four. A further expansion of the capacity to six stills found three years later instead .. After Highland Distillers was acquired, the distillery belonged to the Edrington Group. She was again decommissioned in March 2010 and acquired in June 2011 by the Independent Bottler Ian MacLeod, who started production again in 2012.

Production

The water used is obtained from the Tamdhu source. The firing is done in three coarse blisters ( wash stills ) and fine blisters ( spirit stills ). The distillery is one of the few companies still operate today own maltings and the only Speyside distillery that covers their entire Malzbedarf itself. You also supplies other distilleries, The Edrington Group.

Samples

The whiskey produced is used mainly for producing blends, for example, The Famous Grouse, Cutty Sark and J & B. The first single malt bottling came 1976 on the market. Furthermore, several bottlings independent bottler exist.
