Cardhu distillery

Cardhu [ kaɾdu ] (formerly Cardow ) is a whiskey distillery at Cardow, Knockando, Banffshire, Scotland, United Kingdom. Instantaneous owner Diageo.

History

Cardhu is Gaelic and means " black rock ".

Production

The water belonging to the Speyside distillery comes from sources of Mannoch Hill and the Lyne Burn. It has a mash tun ( mash do ) ( 7.2 t ) and 8 fermenting vats (wash backs) ( together 296,000 l). Is distilled into three wash stills ( together 36,000 l ) and three spirit ( together 31,500 l) which are heated by steam stills.

Products

The whiskey from this distillery is an important part of the Johnnie Walker blends. Under its own label, a 12 -year-old, a 18 -year-old and a 22 year old single malt whiskey appears. In addition, there are short-run the Special Cask Reserve, also a single-malt whiskey. As Rare malt Cardhu has been filled twice, 1998 and 2000. Signatory From there is a 27 -year-old, bottled in 1999.

In the 70s and 80s there were bottlings of an 8 -year-old and a 15 year old Cardhu. These are hard to get and still highly sought after by collectors. Recently, these variants are re- filled.

A so-called " pure malt " whiskey, whose components are at least 12 years old single malts from neighboring Speyside distilleries, caused quite a stir in 2003, since this was bottled in a nearly identical bottle as the single-malt whiskey. Diageo pulled the " Pure Malt " early 2004 go back. In order to avoid such incidents in future, the Scotch Whisky Association ( SWA), adopted in 2005, new descriptions. Whether this really provide more clarity is questionable, since " vatted malt " now " Blended Malt " is what easily with " Blended ( Scotch) whiskey " can be confused.
