Clynelish distillery

Clynelish distillery in Brora is one, Highland, Scotland.

History

There was a predecessor of today's Clynelish distillery of the same name, which was founded in 1819 by George Granville Levison - Gower, the second Marquis of Stafford and later Duke of Sutherland. Today Clynelish Distillery (sometimes called Clynelish B) was right next to the old distillery (initially called Clynelish A) built in 1967 to replace this. The old distillery was mothballed in May 1968 but was already in April 1969 back into production. Clynelish A was then renamed Brora and Clynelish B in Clynelish. Both distilleries produced until 1983 parallel than the Brora distillery was closed. The Clynelish distillery belongs since 1987 to United Distillers (UD) and therefore Diageo since 1998, but only in 1990 the license of Ainslie & Heilbron Ltd. was. on United Malt and Grain Distillers ( UMGD ), the new name of SMD transferred.

Production

The water belonging to the Highlands / Northern Highlands distillery dates back to the Clynemilton Burn. The malt used is sourced from the maltings of Glen Ord. Clynelish has a mash tun ( mash do ) ( 12.5 t) of stainless steel fermentation tanks and eight (wash backs) ( per 58,600 liters ) of larch wood. Is distilled into three wash stills ( per 17,000 liters) and three spirit stills ( 19,000 liters each ), which are heated by steam.
