Taner Sağır

Taner Sagir ( born March 13, 1985 in Kardzhali, Bulgaria) is a Turkish weightlifter.

Sporting career

Sagir began his international career with a body weight of 53.1 kg at the age of 15 years at the European Youth Championships in Lignano Sabbiadoro, where he managed 82.5 kg in the snatch and 85 kg in the jerk and thus in 15th.

In the next few years Sagir started coming back to youth and junior competitions and reached there again top rankings. By the year 2003, he increased his body weight, so that he now started at middleweight to 77 kg. His duel power he increased and achieved at the Junior European Championships in Valencia 365.0 kg in single combat, consisting of 165.5 kg in the snatch and 200.0 kg in bumping.

2004 in Kiev, he was then first used at a European Championship and won with 367.5 kg of gold in all three disciplines. At the Olympic Games in the same year he was able to again increase to 375.0 kg and won Olympic gold before Sergey Filimonov and Oleg Perepetschenow.

In the following year, Sagir won the European Championship for himself and won in Sofia his second European title. Although he did not present himself at the Senior World Championships in Doha, but he was again at the Junior World Championships in Busan First.

In 2006 he then started for the first time at a Senior World Championship in Santo Domingo and won with 361.0 kg the title ahead of Li Hongli with 359.0 kg and 357.0 kg Ara Khachatryan with.
