Geographical location

The Tanon Strait (also Tanon Strait ) is a strait in the Philippine archipelago and connects the Visayan Sea in the north- east with the Boholsee in the southwest.

Geography

The Tanon Strait separates the island lying to the west of the Negros lying in the southeastern island of Cebu. It covers an area of ​​3995 km from ² and has a coastline of 452.7 kilometers. Ecology

The Tanon Strait is an important marine sanctuary for whales, whale sharks and dolphins. The strait is an important passage of the whale sharks on their way to the bay of Tayabas and the Gulf of Ragay. In the Straits rare marine mammals live as the little sperm whale ( Kogia simus ) and the Melon-headed Whale ( Peponocephala electra ). The marine reserve is called Tanon Strait Protected Landscape / Seascape and extends to the island of Bantayan. The Nautilus is supposed to happen in the still waters. Due to the very straight coast of the Tanon Strait cover only 6.5 km ² mangrove forests to the coastal strip, the largest area is located in the Bais Bay and stands as Talabong Mangrove Reserve under protection. Economic importance

The Tanon Strait is an important strait vessel traffic from Dumaguete City in the Western Visayas region and the island of Luzon. She has a great importance for the local fishing and an area of 2.9 km ² were constructed aquaculture. Tourism is limited to a few places along the coast, boats for whale watching can be rented for example in Bais City.
