Geography
The municipality is located in the traditional settlement area of the Sorbs / Wends at the transition to Vorspreewald. The municipality comprises the town Tauer with the districts Schönhöhe ( sorb. Šejnejda ) and Teerofen. On the territory of the municipality of resulting from a glacial valley Großsee is surrounded by a nature reserve and with forests.
History
The discovery of an urn field from the Bronze Age in the 19th century suggests a very early occupation of the site. In 1632 the church was first mentioned as a proven " Tawern ". Already in 1652 the place " Taurów " was called. The district Schönhöhe existed as a field Vorwerk since 1742. As part of the settlement policy Frederick II took place from 1752 here the construction of a two-row village street, the one-time families were predominantly located in Saxony. The colony Teerofen ( today part Teerofen ) on Großsee, which had existed since 1665, it was announced by the tar and pitch extraction. 1852 Teerbrennerei was adjusted. Many local residents wandered the mid-19th century to Australia and North America. 1935 Teerofen after Schönhöhe and 1993 Schönhöhe was incorporated into Tauer.

Coat of arms
The coat of arms was approved on May 9, 2012.
Blazon: "In green to golden sign foot, covered with a green ash -lying branch, a border, resist sighted golden aurochs. "
The coat of arms was designed by the heraldist Uwe Reipert.
Flag
The flag is green - yellow - striped green ( 1:5:1 ) and in the median strip occupied by the municipal coat of arms ".
