Thanyaburi District

Amphoe Thanyaburi ( Thai: อำเภอ ธัญบุรี ) is a district ( Amphoe - administrative district ) of Pathum Thani province in central Thailand. By far the largest city in Amphoe Thanyaburi is Rangsit, administrative headquarters, however, is the small town Thanyaburi.

Geography

Amphoe Thanyaburi has a very elongated shape. It extends to a length of about 35 kilometers and a width of 1.5 kilometers, turn left and right of the Rangsit Canal and the parallel road Nayok Nakhon Rangsit

Thanyaburi located in the eastern part of the Chao Phraya Plain, which Thung Luang was called.

The main water resource of the Khlong Rangsit Thanyaburi is. He was the first canal ( Khlong ) in Siam, which was only built for irrigation purposes.

Neighbouring districts are (from north clockwise): Amphoe Khlong Luang and the Nong Suea the province of Pathum Thani, Amphoe Nakhon Nayok Province Ongkharak and Amphoe Lam Luk Ka and Mueang Pathum Thani turn in Pathum Thani.

Economy

  • Future Park Rangsit - opened on 17 March 1995, the Future Park supposedly the largest mall in Asia, where in addition to the eight largest banks in Thailand about 70 restaurants, a post office, several cinemas and countless smaller retail shops congregate. Even offices of the major department store chains in Thailand, like Central, Robinson, Big C and TOPS can be found here. On weekends, up to 150,000 people come here to shop and relax.

In Amphoe Thanyaburi is also home to the theme park Dreamworld

Traffic

Through the district run the following major roads:

  • The Pahonyothin Expressway ( Thai: ถนน พหลโยธิน - Thanon Phahonyothin ), as the National Road 1 ( Thai: ทางหลวง แผ่นดิน หมายเลข 1) connects the capital Bangkok with northern Thailand and Isaan.
  • The Outer Bangkok Ring Road ( National Road 9, Thai: ทางหลวง พิเศษ หมายเลข 9), a highway that serves as a long-range pass road for Bangkok.
  • The National Highway 305, connecting the National Highway 1 and Nakhon Nayok.

History

Mueang Thanyaburi was founded in 1901 at the behest of King Chulalongkorn ( Rama V ). The name means something like rice City. At the same time, King Chulalongkorn Min Buri ( Fish Town) founded as a twin city. This was part of the development of the Rangsit area north of Bangkok. This was a project of the private Siam Land, Canals, and Irrigation Company in the 1890s, the modern irrigation system in the country. In the following period, the land prices skyrocketed and it came to a mass influx of farmers and workers.

Administrative divisions

Amphoe Thanyaburi is ( tambon) divided into six municipalities, which in turn in 28 village communities ( Muban ) are divided.

There are in the district of a large city ( thesaban Nakhon ):

  • Rangsit ( Thai: เทศบาล นคร รังสิต ), consisting of the entire Tambon Prachathipat.

There is also a city ( Mueang thesaban ):

  • Sanan Rak ( Thai: สนั่น รักษ์ ) consists of the Tambon Bueng Sanan and Bueng Nam Rak

There are also two small towns ( thesaban tambon) in the district:

  • Thanyaburi ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล ธัญบุรี ) consists of the Tambon Rangsit and Lam Phak Kut,
  • Bueng Yi -tho ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล บึง ยี่โถ ) consists of the whole tambon Bueng Yitho.
