The Cosmos Rocks is released in 2008, sixteenth studio album by Queen and only studio album by Queen Paul Rodgers. It is the first joint album of the remaining members of Queen, Brian May and Roger Taylor since thirteen years before published last studio album of the band in the original line.

The album

A few months after the completion of the worldwide tours started in 2005 by Queen Paul Rodgers began work on a studio album in the fall of 2006. The more each week recording sessions took place in Roger Taylor's studio in Surrey place and lasted until 2008. Album was mastered in early August.

Brian May, Paul Rodgers and Roger Taylor sang and played all the instruments himself; only in the song C- lebrity contributed Taylor Hawkins of the Foo Fighters additional backing vocals on. The main voice sang mostly Rodgers. The stylistic range of the album includes, among other things, hard rock, blues rock and ballads.

The first joint studio release from Queen Paul Rodgers released in late 2007, the ballad Say It's Not True for free on the band's official site, and then as a single in favor of Nelson Mandela's 46664 AIDS benefit projects. In early September 2008, the also composed by Roger Taylor Hard Rock titles C - lebrity was released as a pre-release single. In the German-speaking countries the album The Cosmos Rocks appeared already on 12 September 2008, in which also the European tour of Queen Paul Rodgers began with an open-air concert in front of 350,000 spectators in Ukraine. Three days later, on September 15, the album came out in most other countries; in North America was not published until the end of October The Cosmos Rocks by Hollywood Records.

The trio dedicated the album Freddie Mercury; which are not involved in the shooting Queen bassist John Deacon and Paul Kossoff, guitarist of Rodgers 's former band Free is thanked in the liner notes to the forefront. The album cover designed Richard Gray, who is responsible for the design of all albums by Queen since 1986. The images come from the photographer Edgar Martins.

The album was released mainly in three different physical formats: CD, as a limited deluxe edition includes an additional DVD with live recordings (see below Title List ) as well as a vinyl double LP. In addition, various online editions are available, and iTunes with an exclusive bonus track.

The as part of the North American tour in 2006, played live, written by Paul Rodgers Title Take Love was also recorded in the studio, but not completed.

Single releases

Say It's Not True appeared on 28 ( in German-speaking countries ) and December 31, 2007 as a single; the revenue benefit Nelson Mandela's 46664 Aids campaign.

C- lebrity was published in the German-speaking countries on 5 and worldwide on September 8, 2008. The title was released on CD and 7 "single as well as online, including as an iTunes Exclusive edition. As a further tracks - depending on the issue differently - the presentation of C - lebrity in the British television series " Al Murray 's Happy Hour" included as a video as well as live renditions of Fire and Water and The Show Must Go On. The two live recordings are from the DVD Super Live in Japan. The single reached number 33 in the British charts and rank 67 in the German charts

We Believe only appeared in Italy as a promo single and contains an abridged by almost three minutes version of We Believe.

Special Edition with Live DVD

The "Special Edition" of The Cosmos Rocks includes the bonus DVD Super Live in Japan - Highlights. This live recording shows excerpts from the concert at the Saitama Super Arena near Tokyo on 27 October 2005:

The complete - 29 songs comprehensive - concert recording was released in 2006 exclusively in Japan as a DVD called Super Live in Japan.

Chart positions

The Cosmos Rocks Queen minutes was online the top of the Estonian album charts. The highest rankings achieved another album with rank four in Germany and number five in the UK and Switzerland.

Reception by other musicians

Under the title I Loved a Butterfly published in 2010, the British singer and musical actress Kerry Ellis a cover version of Some Things That Glitter. It was produced by Brian May, who also played acoustic guitar, and appeared on Ellis ' debut album Anthems. While indicated as authors of Some Things That Glitter ( as with all songs of The Cosmos Rocks ), Queen Paul Rodgers ', is mentioned in I Loved a Butterfly as sole author Brian May.

The singer and musical actress Martha Rossi took on an Italian version of We Believe ( Credimi ). Songwriter Brian May is heard on guitar. Rossi's version appeared on her 2011 EP Musica Sarà ( label Universal ).
