The People's Key is an album by the band Bright Eyes. It was released in February 2011.

It was the first album by Bright Eyes after nearly four years earlier published Cassadaga. In the meantime, head band Conor Oberst has released two solo albums. Overall, it is the eleventh album or the seventh regular studio album under the name Bright Eyes.

Album Title

On the significance of the album title Colonel expressed as follows:

" The term The People 's Key refers to the note C in the scale. This is the one key on the piano, the sound all the other white keys well. It is the easiest key that you can play. It took forever for this album title, but now I am very happy with it. "

Recording and Artwork

The album was recorded during the year 2010 in the ARC Studios in Oberst's hometown of Omaha, Nebraska.

The artwork was designed again by Zack Nipper, who already took the graphic design of the previous album Cassadaga and for the 2008 Grammy won.

Reception

The People 's Key was recorded mixed by critics. Positive reviews, there were approximately of Josef Gasteiger at laut.de with four out of five or Kevin Holtmann at Plattentests.de with eight out of ten.

Rather average reviews however, there were approximately at Pitchfork Media, where the album is rated five out of ten, but the Ladder Song is explicitly singled out positive .. Allmusic and Rolling Stone awarded three and a half out of five.

Since Bright Eyes is mainly the project of Conor Oberst, the cast of musicians often changes from album to album. However, Mike Mogis and Nate Walcott have become full members of the band since about 2005.
