The Rutles

The Rutles were or are a fictional British band from the 1970s that parodied the Beatles.

History

In the 1970s, Neil Innes worked with Eric Idle a television comedy series entitled " Rutland Weekend Television ". Part of this series was the fictional band The Rutles, a parody of the Beatles. Innes composed for this fictional band songs that very " Beatle -esque " sounded. The Rutles were so successful in 1978 that a complete TV movie was produced. This film - " The Rutles - All You Need Is Cash" - describes, inspired by the history of the Beatles, the career of the Rutles in a " mockumentary ". Innes composed the music for the film and played the role of Ron Nasty.

Some popular performer completed the team, including Michael Palin, Gwen Taylor, Terence Bayle and the Saturday Night Live stars Dan Aykroyd, John Belushi, Gilda Radner and Bill Murray ( in his first film role ). Even George Harrison appeared - barely visible - as a reporter.

Also, could the film Mick Jagger and Paul Simon (as herself ) are obtained. Bianca Jagger as Martini, wife of Dirk McQuickley, Ron Wood, a member of the Hells Angels, the performance artist Roger McGough an interview partner.

1996 there was a reunion of the band - possibly because of the Beatles Reunion 1994 -, the album Archaeology ( an allusion was to the created by the Beatles Anthology reunion.

2002-25 years after "All You Need Is Cash" - Eric Idle turned a sequel under the title " The Rutles 2 - Can not Buy Me Lunch". The sequel relies on in- picture material and deleted scenes from the precursor film. In the soundtrack, there are also tracks from the Archaeology album.

Followed in 2010 in reference to the Beatles remix album Love and the eponymous show of Cirque du Soleil, the project lunch.
