Getting Better

June 1, 1967

Getting Better (German: Better be ') is a song by British rock band The Beatles, released in 1967 as the fourth track on the LP Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.

The song was written primarily by Paul McCartney. The idea for the title dates back to Jimmie Nicol, the Ringo Starr took during a tour for several concerts and relieved after performances used to say: "It's getting better! " (Eng.: 'It gets better '! )

Recordings

The recordings took place on 9 and 10 and on 21 and 23 March 1967 in the Abbey Road Studios in London. On the first two days recording the rhythm track was developed. George Martin was played by an instrument called Pianette whose strings are struck directly, so they got a harsh sound.

On the third day of admission, March 21, 1967, John Lennon is said to have felt very uncomfortable suddenly. He was, to get some fresh air, accompanied by George Martin on the roof of the studio. Since the studio was always surrounded by fans, there was no other option. Martin Lennon was left alone on the roof without a parapet, where it ran around confused. The other Beatles realized well that Lennon was on an LSD trip and took him before he could crash away from the roof edge.

This piece is a good example of the collaboration of the composer duo Lennon / McCartney. While Paul McCartney sings with a very strong and optimistic voice that sounds like John Lennon's voice thin. On the chorus line "It's getting better all the time " replies Lennon cynical: "it can not get no worse". This incident should have come to him spontaneously, as McCartney played him the song to the sample.

John Lennon and Paul McCartney recalled in 1980 and 1984, respectively in interviews with Playboy magazine:

" It is a diary form of writing. All that ' I used to be cruel to my woman, I beat her and kept her apart from the things did she loved ' was me. I used to be cruel to my woman, and physically - any woman. I was a hitter. I could not express myself and I hit. I fought men and I hit women. "

" There is something in the nature of a diary entry. All this, I was brutal to my wife, I hit her and held her away from the things that she loved ', that was me. I was brutal to my wife, and physically - every woman. I was a bat. I could not express myself, so I struck. I fought with men and I hit women. "

" Wrote did at my house in St. John 's Wood. All I remember is did I said, ' It's getting better all the time, ' and John Contributed the legendary line ' It could not get much worse. ' Which I thought was very good. Against the spirit of that song, Which was all super- optimistic ... then there 's that lovely little sardonic line. Typical John. "

"I wrote in my home in St. John 's Wood. The only thing I can remember is that I said, It's all getting better ' and John came up with the legendary line, worse konnt ' it no longer. ' The more well -liked. This was totally against the mood of the song, which was so superoptimistisch ... and then this cute little mischievous line comes. Typical John. "
