Please Please Me (German: , Gladden me ') is the title of the first album of The Beatles, released on 22 March 1963. In Germany, the album was released on February 6, 1964, initially under the different title The central dance makers of the world famous Four from Liverpool.
Recording
The recordings for the debut album of the Beatles found mostly on February 11, 1963 in a long session, which lasted from 10 to 22:45 clock instead. This was only possible because you could fall back on the song selection on a repertoire that the Beatles played almost constantly at their performances. Longer samples were therefore not required. Four shots were taken from the previously released singles Love Me Do and Please Please Me (including B-sides ). The rapid production was due to the fact that George Martin - after the single Please Please Me had become a number - one hit - wanted to release an album as soon as possible.
The pictures were taken on a two -track tape recorder in the Abbey Road studios and were mixed in mono and stereo. Was produced the LP by George Martin, who also played the piano on some pieces. As engineers acted Norman Smith and Richard Langham.
The morning began with the sessions for the song There's a Place in which the composer John Lennon and Paul McCartney together took over the lead vocals. After ten Takes you were satisfied with the result, and turned next I Saw Her Standing There to. Paul McCartney sang this rocking number that initially carried the working title Seventeen. Nine takes were recorded before this Lennon / McCartney composition was completed.
During the recording engineer made their lunch break, the Beatles were in the studio to perfect some pieces. After the break, the work was continued with a cover version of the ballad A Taste of Honey. In this sung by Paul McCartney song was first used in a recording of the Beatles, the double tracking process to " double " McCartney singing.
The next piece Do You Want to Know a Secret George Harrison made his first appearance as the lead singer. Lennon and McCartney had the song specially composed for Harrison.
Misery was next on the program. Lennon and McCartney took over again together on vocals. The two had originally written the song for the singer Helen Shapiro, whose managers did not like it. The piano solo was created by George Martin.
The evening session at 19:30 clock began the recordings for another composition by Lennon / McCartney. A total of 13 takes of Hold Me Tight recorded. In the final compilation of the album, however, was abandoned to the use of the piece.
In the following shots the Beatles drew on familiar cover versions, which manifested itself also in the quantity of each takes. None took more than four attempts. John Lennon took over the vocals on the coming of Arthur Alexander in Original Anna ( Go to Him). Ringo Starr was given the opportunity to compete as a singer with Boys. The piece came from the U.S. girl group The Shirelles. John Lennon, Paul McCartney and George Harrison sang the composition chains of Gerry Goffin and Carole King.
The end of the marathon session was the piece Twist and Shout, by the Isley Brothers in 1962 had a minor hit in the USA. However, knowing that the piece of Lennon's voice would strain strongly, George Martin had made it to the end of the recording session. Two versions were recorded, but in the second brought no useful Lennon singing more about. For the recordings of each of the musicians received 14 pounds and 10 shillings.
On February 20, 1963 - in the absence of the Beatles - George Martin took his piano part for the song Misery and a celesta passage for Baby It's You on. The February 25, 1963 George Martin spent so to blend the shots.

Please Please Me contains six pieces with a high proportion of cover versions, partly due to the scarce production time; something that should be repeated in the recordings for the fourth album Beatles for Sale. Cover
The (taken by photographer Angus McBean ) of the album cover was in the stairwell of EMI building in London. Now very changed - - In 1969, the design was with the band members repeatedly as a cover for the album Get Back ( the - itself never released - later to Let It Be was ) to serve. However, the photo was in 1973 used as a cover for the compilation of The Beatles from 1967 to 1970 ( the so-called Blue Album) as well as on the back of the album The Beatles 1962-1966 (also called the Red Album ).
