Genesis

It was composed in 1960 by Bert Berns ( under the pseudonym Bert Russell) and Phil Medley ( from duo The Righteous Brothers). Berns and Medley had two sounds together, namely elements of Shout ( an original composition of the Isley Brothers in August 1959) and Twist - passages, both connected by a La Bamba adaptation.

The original of the originally called Shake it up, baby titled song comes from the U.S. Rhythm & Blues Duo Top Notes and was taken from this on February 23, 1961 in Bell Sound Studios (New York). Atlantic Records head Jerry Wexler Producer produced the rhythm & blues song along with the inexperienced Phil Spector, arranger Teddy Randazzo was. According to Wexler's observation, there was no consonance in the studio, because cooperation between him and Phil Spector did not work. " We brought forth only negative synergies and have never found the right mood ," Wexler excused the poor production. Composer Berns could not intervene because they had banished him into the visiting room. He had to watch as Spector ruined the song: " People, you have my piece ruined " Under these preconditions, the single Twist and Shout / Always Late ( Why Lead Me On ) (Atlantic 2115 ) came in September 1961 on the market and remained without any hit parade resonance.

Cover version of the Isley Brothers

The fledgling producer Bert Berns was unhappy with Spector's work and created for the Isley Brothers, a completely new arrangement. When in March 1962 again after a recording session with Chuck Jackson remained free ten minutes of studio time at Bell Sound Studios, Berns left the Isley Brothers come to Twist and Shout re-record with them. Since not enough time left in the spontaneous recording session to record a B-side, the music track of the A-side was used and dubbed in Spanish twist. The three real brothers reached after the release (Wall 124) on 16 June 1962, their cover version of a No. 2 ranking in the Rhythm & Blues chart and # 17 pop singles chart (ranked 42 in the UK), but the single became the first million seller for Berns. Their eponymous album was released in October 1962.
