The Beatles in Mono is a limited edition box set compilation of remastered mono recordings of the British rock band The Beatles. The set was released on 9 September 2009, simultaneously with the stereo recordings of the Beatles Stereo Box Set and the video game The Beatles: Rock Band. The remastering project for the stereo and the mono version of the box set was led by EMI chief engineer Allan Rouse and Guy Massey.

The purpose of the New Release

The mono box set was released to light that the entire Beatles discography was (apart from Let It Be and Abbey Road) originally published in addition to the stereo version on mono. For example, the mono mix of the songs along with the Beatles during the recording of the album was mixed at Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. In contrast, the stereo mix was mixed in six days of George Martin, Geoff Emerick and Richard Lush, after the album was completed, while none of the Beatles was present during this process.

"At time did [ ... ] the console what about this big with four faders on it. And there what one speaker right in the middle [ ... ] and what did it. Whenthey invented stereo, I remember thinking ' Why? What do you want two speakers for? ' Because it ruined the sound from our point of view. You know, we had everything coming out of one speaker; now it had to come out of two speakers. It sounded like ... very ... naked. "

"At that time [ ... ] The console was about as large, with four sliders on it. And there was a speaker right in the middle [ ... ] and that's it. Was invented as a stereo, I thought to myself, Why? What two speakers? 'Because it ruined the sound of our opinion. Everything came from a speaker, now it had to come from two speakers. It sounded ... very ... naked. "

A mono mix was therefore easier to accomplish by the band themselves and corresponded to the image of the band, as the respective albums should sound.

Limited Edition

The Limited Edition was advertised by amazon.com in the U.S. and less than a month before the release it was announced that the Limited Edition is already sold. Less than two weeks before the 9th September, the day of the release of the box set was announced by many other online merchants that their stocks have already sold.

EMI announced on 3 September 2009 that due to high demand in the online preorder more Mono Box Sets would be produced. This version will be limited, but not limited to 10,000 copies, as originally announced.

The albums Yellow Submarine, Abbey Road and Let It Be are not included in this compilation, since it does not own mono versions were more mixed. A mono version of Yellow Submarine was released in the UK, but only a down-mixed ( mix) stereo version was and not have their own, separate mono version. The previously available, real Monoabmischungen of four new songs that were released on the album Yellow Submarine ( Only a Northern Song, All Together Now, Hey Bulldog and It's All Too Much), were originally scheduled for internal publication as mono EP. A Monoabmischung of Across the Universe would have been included on this EP and was released on the compilation Mono Masters. A Monoabmischung the albums Abbey Road and Let It Be was in the UK on tapes in mono as well as on vinyl LP in Brazil and in other countries - but only as a downmix of the respective stereo version.

A DVD of short documentaries about the origins of the individual remastered albums was omitted from this publication and attached only the stereo box.

The album The Beatles, which is included in this monoboxes, was originally published in the UK and in some other countries only in mono. In the U.S., it appeared already in 1968 in stereo, as the technology -enforcing faster there. However, the Monoabmischungen the songs Helter Skelter and Do not Pass Me By 1980 in the U.S. on the compilation Rarities have been published ( Capitol Records ).

Mono Masters, a mono compilation was included as part of the Beatles in Mono. The premise of this box set was that only sound material is included, which was previously released as separate Monoabmischung or so mixed ( the set does not include the later albums, which were mixed and released only in stereo). As a result differs from the title list of Mono Masters from that of the Past Masters, but only on the second side of the second CD. Later songs without their own Monoabmischung were not attached. But were some songs that were released on only stereo albums and of which unpublished Monoabmischungen exist attached. The title 9 to 12 and 15 were prepared in March for a release on 7 " -EP Yellow Submarine in mono. Due to poor ratings of the Yellow Submarine album this project a mono EP was abandoned. Consequently, the songs were only released in stereo ( and in a mono downmix of the stereo mix ), while the real Monoabmischungen remained unpublished. Get Back ( with Do not Let Me Down B-side ) was the last single that was released in mono. It was released in the UK in mono and in the U.S. only in stereo. The stereo singles that are included on the compilation Past Masters were omitted on The Beatles in Mono.

The following later - originally released only in stereo - Songs of the box were accompanied by:
