Third Watch - use the limit is a U.S. television series that revolves around the grueling days of firefighters, police and paramedics of the fictional 55th district in the New York district of Manhattan. This district is located on the corner of King Boulevard and Arthur Street, which is why it is also called Camelot. The characters work in the layer 15-23 clock and keep the third guard (English: third watch) the day off.

The series is a mix of drama, thriller and action. The episodes are made up of numerous individual episodes that deal with the development of a character and of storylines that are, some tracked over several episodes over several seasons.

Third Watch was launched in the U.S. in 1999, ran for six seasons and 132 episodes and was hired by NBC in May 2005. To date, only the first three seasons were purchased and synchronized by the German channel VOX. VOX has stated that they will not buy another season and rely exclusively on the new CSI series. Third Watch is also broadcast on the station TNT series since 31 January 2009.

Unlike many other series with this issue Third Watch is credited with a special realism. Of course, many situations are dramatically inflated, but the representation of the tasks of paramedics and a fire company has also harvested from the trade press, such as the fire brigade magazine, praise.

Since April 2006 there has been the first season with all 22 episodes in Germany to buy on DVD. Whether the synchronized seasons 2 and 3 are also released on DVD, is not yet decided. According to TV Movie ( 06/ 07) Warner plans no further DVD releases. In the U.S. market, however, the second season is available as a DVD box since July 7, 2009. A German synchronization or German subtitles are not available.

Comments

  • Third Watch is considered the official offshoot of the television series Emergency Room (ER), but is usually not felt by the fans as an offshoot. Although both series play in different cities, there is a so-called crossover. John Wells is working together as ER also in this series with Christopher Chulack executive producer. Another crossover there was in 2005 with the series Medical Investigation.
  • The terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center were incorporated into the series. For the first two episodes of the already wacky Season 3 (2001-2002) have been rewritten and neugedreht. In addition to praise for the sincere and emotional representation of September 11, the series was also criticized for portray violence to detail.
  • At the production of the series real firefighters from New York are involved, which also took part in missions on September 11, among others and there have also lost comrades.
  • In the pilot episode is during the initial scenes " Right Here, Right Now" by Fatboy Slim to hear the theme song in all other episodes is " Keep Hope Alive" by The Crystal Method.
