Thomas Eriksson (ice hockey)

Bo Thomas Eriksson ( born October 16, 1959 in Stockholm ) is a retired Swedish professional ice hockey player who played in his time from 1976 to 1995 among others for the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League.

Career

Thomas Eriksson began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the junior department of Djurgårdens IF, for the first team he in the 1976/77 season his debut in Division 1, the second Swedish league, gave. With his team he managed Earned promotion in the Elitserien. In this he spent three years as a regular for Djurgårdens IF, before he moved to the 1980/81 season to the Philadelphia Flyers, who had in 1979 in the fifth round him already selected in the NHL Entry Draft as the 98th player. In his first NHL year in 31 games he scored a goal and twelve templates for the Flyers. The majority of the playing time he spent in Philadelphia, however, farm team Maine Mariners in the American Hockey League.

The 1981/82 season began Eriksson again with the Philadelphia Flyers, played for the team, but only one NHL game, before he returned to his hometown club Djurgårdens IF. With the team from Stockholm he won in the 1982/83 season for the first time the Swedish championship title. Following this success he was given another chance with the Philadelphia Flyers, for whom he in the 1983/84 season in 71 games 45 points scorer, eleven goals scored in his first full NHL year. Because of his achievements, he was rewarded with the choice in the NHL All- Rookie Team. In Philadelphia, he remained for two more years before he once more Djurgårdens IF joined. With the team he was in the years 1989, 1990 and 1991, a further three times national champion. He also won the Djurgårdens IF in 1990 and 1991 respectively to the Hockey European Cup. He was also very successful in his time in Stockholm and was elected in 1980, 1983, 1990 and 1991 in the Swedish all-star team. Most recently, he ran in the 1994/95 season in the Elitserien participants Västerås IK, before he ended his career at the age of 35 years.

In his honor, was his jersey number 27 locked Djurgårdens IF and issued more than to any other player.

Internationally

For Sweden, Eriksson took part in the junior level only at the U20 World Junior Championships in 1979, where he won the bronze medal with his team.

In the senior level, he stood in his country's squad at the World Championships in 1979, 1982, 1983, 1989 and 1990 and at the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid and in Calgary in 1988. In addition, he represented Sweden in 1981 and 1984 when Canada Cup. In the 1980 and 1988 FIFA World Cup in 1979 and the Winter Games he won the bronze at the 1990 World Cup silver medal with his team.
