Thomas Joseph Drury

Thomas Joseph Drury ( born January 4, 1908 in Bally note, Munster, Ireland, † July 22, 1992 ) was an Irish -born, American clergyman and bishop of Corpus Christi.

Life

Thomas Joseph Drury received on 30 May 1935, the sacrament of Holy Orders for the Diocese of Amarillo.

Pope John XXIII. appointed him on 30 October 1961 the first Bishop of San Angelo. He received his episcopal consecration of the Archbishop of San Antonio, Robert Emmet Lucey, on January 24 of the following year; Co-consecrators were the Bishop of Amarillo, John Louis Morkovsky, and Bishop Stephen Aloysius Leven of San Antonio.

Drury attended all four sessions of the Second Vatican Council as part of a Council Father.

Pope Paul VI. Drury appointed on 19 July 1965 Bishop of Corpus Christi, after a few days earlier parts of the territory of the Diocese of establishing the bishopric of Brownsville had been separated.

Drury promoted the implementation of the decisions of the Second Vatican Council in his diocese and Diocesan Pastoral Council convened a. He founded a diocese newspaper and enabled preparation to start their own radio station.
