Tibor Berczelly

Tibor Berczelly ( born January 3, 1912 in Budapest, Hungary, † October 15, 1990 ) was a Hungarian saber fencer and three -time Olympic champion.

He took part in 1936 with the Hungarian saber team at the Olympic Games in Berlin and won the gold medal there. This success should be repeated in London in 1948 and 1952 at the Games in Helsinki two more times. In Helsinki, he could win a medal in the individual competition with the saber in third place. In addition, he also took part with the foil on the team competition and won a bronze medal there.

In the first World Fencing Championships in Paris in 1937 he became world champion with the saber with the Hungarian team. In the individual competition he finished second. In the World Fencing Championships 1954 in Luxembourg, he won the bronze medal with the saber.

Berczelly was a member of the Hungarian sports club Csepel SC.
