Tillabéri

Region

Tilabéri (also: Tillabéry ) is the capital of the region Tilabéri in Niger. It has around 50,000 inhabitants.

Geography

Location and Boroughs

Tilabéri located in the southern Sahel, on the Niger River, about 120 kilometers from the capital, Niamey. The neighboring municipalities are Sinder in the north, Sakoïra in the east, the south and Kourteye Gothèye in the West. The city is divided into six districts, nine administrative villages and 64 hamlets. The Neighborhoods hot Baghdad, Gandatché, Kabia, Koira Tegui, Toula and Zongo.

The urban main axes on which focused public life, the road through the N1 between Niamey and Mali, as well as the river bank. North of the center of Tilabéri ( "Greater Tilla " ) is Tillakaina ("Little Tilla " ), which were subject to a common local chief in the 19th century.

Climate

History

Tilabéri was founded in 1810 by a Songhai Songantcha named Yacouba. The area of Tilabéri came at the turn of the 19th and 20th century under French military administration. The place was built in 1908 administrative center of a circle in the military territory of Niger, which extended over the subsequent departments Tilabéri and Téra and was previously managed from 1900 by Zinder and from 1901 by Doulsou from. Policy

Mayor of Morou is Kaboyé, Vice Mayor Moussa Douma. The city council has 16 members, of whom 13 are elected members of three of his own motion. The last elections were held on 31 October 2010. Among the non- elected members of the City Council include the traditional local chiefs ( chefs traditionnels ) of Tilabéri and Sakoïra.

Culture and sights

The municipality operates two cultural centers, the Maison de la Culture Tinguizi Mabo and a newer, opened in 2008, Maison de la Culture. There is a public library and several municipal sports facilities.

Economy and infrastructure

The market day is Sunday. There is a grocery store and a cattle market, both of which are located on the thoroughfare. In Tilabéri a post office and a hotel, but no banks are present. Traditionally, the city along with local area is known for rice cultivation.

In Tilabéri there are 34 primary schools, including a private school. At a primary school teacher average of 23 students ( 39 nationwide ) came. The city is the seat of the Tribunal de Grande Instance, one of the nation's ten civil courts of first instance.

In Tilabéri a civilian airport located with unpaved airstrip, the Tilabéri Airport ( ICAO code: DRRL ). After Niamey in the south, to the north and Ayérou after Asongo and Gao in Mali is a regular public buses. Niamey is also accessible by public pirogues on the river.
