Tingstäde

Tingstäde is a place ( tätort ) on the Swedish Baltic Sea island of Gotland in the province of Gotland County and the historical province of Gotland. It is located in the municipality of Gotland on the shore of the lake Tingstädeträsk. In the village is a medieval church.

The name of the place is first documented in the 14th century as Tingstedj and contains the word altgutnische thingstedhi, which means Thingplace. In medieval times Gotland into three areas (Swedish tredingar ) was divided; It is believed that here was the Thing place for the northern third.
