Tom Lysiak

Thomas James Lysiak ( born April 22, 1953 in High Prairie, Alberta ) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey player who played during his active career, among other things for the Atlanta Flames and Chicago Blackhawks of the National Hockey League.

Career

Tom Lysiak was during his youth from 1970 to 1973 for the Medicine Hat Tigers on the ice, where he played together with Lanny McDonald. In his last two years with the Hat Tigers in the WCJHL led the attacker the league as the best scorer on. With a score of 327 points in 195 games Lysiak is one of the top ten scorers in franchise history. In 1973 he took part in the team's unsuccessful Memorial Cup. In the NHL Amateur Draft 1973, the Canadian was selected in the first round in second position of the Atlanta Flames. In the same year he was drafted in the WHA Amateur Draft by the Houston Aeros, but neither Lysiak played for the Aeros, nor did he ever played a match in the World Hockey Association. In Atlanta, he played together with Jacques Richard and Larry Romanchych in a line. DC in his debut season Lysiak was the best scorer of the Flames and ended the following four seasons with the best points haul.

In Atlanta, he became a leading player and also had the Office of the team captain held. During this time he was nominated several times due to its good performance for the NHL All-Star Game. For the fans Lysiak gained further popularity when he challenged Don Saleški of the Philadelphia Flyers to a fight. Internationally

Lysiak represented his country at the World Championships in 1978. During the tournament, he came in seven games for, scoring two points. The attacker won the bronze medal with the Canadian selection.
