Tom McGrath (Animator)

Thomas " Tom" McGrath ( born August 7, 1964 in Lynnwood, Washington) is an American animator, screenwriter, director, voice actor, voice imitator and actor who became known especially by the Madagascar movies.

Life and career

Tom McGrath took an early interest for animation films. This interest has been aroused in him by comic shows on TV; so he turned to his brother even smaller stop-motion films in which they used their cartoon characters. Tom McGrath grew up in Lynnwood and studied at the University of Washington, first in the Department of Industrial Design and then in animation at the California School of Cinematic Arts McGrath learned directly from former animators who had worked for Disney Studios.

His first work as an animation designer and layout artist in the animation counted 1992 film Cool World. His career in film began McGrath as an employee in the field of animation for various film and television productions. So in 1995 he was in two episodes of the storyboard of the series The Ren and Stimpy Show responsible. In the movies Cats & Dogs and How the Grinch Stole Christmas, he worked as a set designer.

In 2005, he staged as a director together with Eric Darnell DreamWorks animated feature film Madagascar. For this he was also active as a writer, as well as in the first sequel. 2008, the two worked together again and there was Madagascar 2 Four years later, followed by Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted. For these films McGrath also worked as a voice actor and took over the office hours of the skipper, as in the series The Penguins of Madagascar. Also in other productions such as Shrek the Third (Gary ) he appeared as voice actors in appearance. In 2010 he animated the movie Megamind. His directorial debut for a live-action adaptation is Tom McGrath in the comedy Ghost Renta with Ben Stiller, which has been announced for 2013.
