Tom Nolan

Thomas " Tom" Nolan (Irish Tomás Ó Nualláin, born July 27, 1921 in Myshall, County Carlow, † August 17, 1992 ) was an Irish Fianna Fáil politician.

Biography

After schooling, he entered the service of the Irish Defence Forces ( na hÉireann Óglaigh ). After his retirement from active military service, he was nominated by the then Taoiseach (Prime Minister ) Seán Lemass in 1961 as a member of the Senate ( Seanad Eireann ) and thus began his political career for Fianna Fáil.

He was then for the first time in 1965 as Deputy ( Teachta Dala of the lower house ( Dáil Éireann ) ) is selected and represented in the four subsequent re- elections until 1982, the interests of the constituency of Carlow - Kilkenny. At the same time it was during this period from 1973 to 1979 after the accession of Ireland to the European Communities delegated by the European Parliament.

On March 25, 1980, he was appointed by Prime Minister Charles J. Haughey to the Minister of State in the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, and thus assumed as a " junior ministers " his first government post. In a cabinet reshuffle, he was then appointed on 16 December 1980 Minister of Labour and was the first government Haughey to the end of his tenure at June 30, 1981.

After retiring from politics, he worked as a wholesaler.
