Trafford

Trafford since 1974 a metropolitan borough in the metropolitan county of Greater Manchester in England. Administrative center is the city of Stretford. Other important towns in the Borough are Altrincham, Bowdon, Hale, Hale Barns, Old Trafford, Partington, Sale, Timperley and Urmston.

In Trafford are the Old Trafford stadium of the football club Manchester United and Old Trafford Cricket Ground Lancashire County Cricket Club, also known as Old Trafford. In addition, there is Trafford The Trafford Centre ( the largest shopping center in the northwestern Great Britain) and the Imperial War Museum North, a branch of the Imperial War Museum in London.

The reorganization of the limits and the capabilities of local authorities led in 1974 to form the Metropolitan Borough. Were fused while areas of two counties. In Cheshire, these were the boroughs of Altrincham and Sale, the urban districts of Bowdon and Hale and part of Bucklow Rural District; in Lancashire, these were the Borough of Stretford and Urmston Urban District.

1986 Trafford was in fact a Unitary Authority, as the central government dissolved the overall management of Greater Manchester. Trafford was for ceremonial purposes part of Greater Manchester, as well as for individual higher-level tasks such as police, fire and public transport.
