Trenčín Region

The Trenčín Region ( German Trenčín Region ) is an administrative region in the north-western Slovakia.

The Kraj consists of the following 9 districts ( okresy ):

Geography

The Kraj has 4502 km ² and 594 186 inhabitants ( 31 December 2011) and is located in the north-western Slovakia. The landscape is mostly dominated by the mountain ranges of the Carpathians; just to the south reaches the mighty Danube lowlands to the area of Nove Mesto nad Váhom and Partizánske. To the west are a small part of the Little Carpathians and part of Hillsbrad Myjavská pahorkatina to Kraj. The White Carpathians in the north- west, together with the Javorníky in the extreme north of the border with Moravia. From the mountains to the east lie as Strážovské hills or Inowetz they are separated by the Považie. To the east of Krajs the boiler is of the Nitra River, surrounded by mountains bird, Žiar and small parts of the Malá Fatra and the Kremnica mountains. Major rivers in Kraj are the already mentioned Vah and Nitra ( Neutra ). In the West also includes a short section of the river to the Myjava Kraj. The highest mountain is the Vtáčnik in bird Mountains ( 1346 m nm); the lowest point is at the Waag in Horna Streda (165 m nm).

There are five protected landscape areas in Kraj: Malé Karpaty ( Small Carpathians), Biele Karpaty (White Carpathians), Strážovské hills, Kysuca and Ponitrie ( Nitra region, mountains and bird Tribeč Mountains).

Administratively borders of the territory to the Žilinský the north and east, in the southeast Banskobystrický kraj, Nitriansky kraj in the south, Trnavský kraj in the south and southwest, and the Czech South Moravian Region and Zlín in the northwest.

Historical administrative units

In the Kingdom of Hungary, the area was largely divided into two counties: the Považie to (but excluding ) Nové Mesto nad Váhom and the area of Bánovce nad Bebravou was part of the county Trenčín; the regions of Myjava and Nové Mesto nad Váhom and Neutratal belonged to the county Neutra. A small part of the present city Partizánske was part of the county perch.

Population

The population density is 133/km ², slightly more than the Slovak average ( 110/km ²). Capital is Trenčín, another important city is Prievidza. Overall, the landscape association of 276 municipalities, 18 cities. The Slovaks form according to the 2001 census 98 % of the population. The Czechs constitute a fraction of 1 %.

When religion is the Roman Catholic church dominates with almost 72 %; the second course is the Evangelical Church with almost 10%. One seventh of the population identify themselves as atheists.
