Turner Broadcasting System ( TBS), occurring mostly under the short name Turner, is an American media company that operates cable channels and is active in the film rights. TBS is one of seven independent companies within the Time Warner Group and is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia.

History

Ted Turner bought the loss-making in 1970 UHF television station WJRJ in Atlanta and changed the name of the transmitter in WTCG, in reference to the new parent company of the sender, the Turner Communications Group.
