Tzachi Hanegbi

Zachi Ha - Negbi Hebrew צחי הנגבי ( born February 26, 1957 in Jerusalem) is an Israeli politician and a former minister.

Biography

After schooling the son of MKs Geula Cohen made ​​initially from 1974 to 1977 his military service in the armed forces ( IDF) in the Paratroopers Brigade ( Hativat HaTzanhanim ) before a degree in international relations and law at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem joined, from which he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (BA ) and a Bachelor of Laws ( LL.B. ). During this time, he was the first from 1979 to 1980 President of the Student Union at the Hebrew University and then to 1982 president of the National Union of Students.

After graduation, he was admitted to the bar, but entered the government service, where he was initially 1983-1984 Assistant to the Minister of Transport Chaim Corfo and then advisor to Foreign Minister Yitzhak Shamir. Between 1986 and 1988, he was then director of the office of Prime Minister Shamir.

His political career began on 21 November 1988, when Hanegbi was first elected to the Knesset members and which he belongs, except for a brief interruption from December 2005 to April 2006 until today as a representative of the Likud. On June 18, 1996, he was appointed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as health minister for the first time in a government and held that office until 12 November 1996. However, he was appointed at the same time the Minister of Justice on 4 September 1996 and held this position for almost three years until July 6, 1999 held. During his tenure, it came on 10 January 1997 on the controversial appointment of Ronni Bar-On to the Attorney General, but gave up due to the large critique of this office already after 55 hours. In late 2006, he was accused to have claimed during his tenure as Minister of the Environment unjustified 69 members of the Likud in government offices, which is why charges were brought against him.
