Unicode block

The list of Unicode blocks lists all layers and blocks of the current Unicode standard.

These blocks ( blocks ) are to planes ( planes ) are combined, in which the third and fourth bytes are equal. Therefore, each of the 17 levels contains 216 = 65,536 possible codes, of which the last two ( FFFEhex and FFFFhex ) can not be used for the assignment of characters, otherwise the byte order mark is no longer visible. This one level has 65,534 possible code points.

Currently, only a small portion of code points is already defined. For levels 3 through 13 are still without any defined blocks.

Block sizes are always multiples of 16, except for the last block of a plane that terminates in front of the last two codes is always a plane. Another reason why many blocks contain spaces without defined characters that are no longer available for other blocks are available. Available is only what is for the time being does not prove of blocks. Even if no characters are defined in blocks, these code points are no longer available for other purposes.

Numerous extensions are in various stages of planning, some of the block areas are already provided. Extension blocks, their establishment is to be expected according to the roadmaps are flagged here as planned. The following table shows the current assignment of layers and blocks, according to the version level Unicode 6.2.0, the copy deadline 14 May 2012.

Levels

For each level of the area, the contribution of all occupied blocks, the number of available code points, the number of defined code points, and the number of blocks within the still undefined code points are given.

A total of 1,114,078 of possible code points 253 466 ( 22.75% ) assigned to blocks and 860 612 ( 77.25 %) did not, so still available. 246 918 From the assigned code points are defined and not 6548, which corresponds to a utilization of 97.42 %. Here are the code points of the " Private Use Areas" as defined, since the purpose is defined as " free time ", even if the appearance is not fixed.

List of Blocks

A special feature are the blocks "High Surrogates " and "Low Surrogates " dar. These codes are required for Unicode Transformation Format and are not available for assignment to characters.
