Urmiri Municipality

The municipality Urmiri (also: Belén de Urmiri ) is a district in the Potosí Department in the highlands of South American Andes State of Bolivia.

Location in near space

The municipality Urmiri is one of four Municipalities in the province of Tomás Frías. It is bordered to the east by the municipality of Yocalla, to the south by the province Antonio Quijarro, on the northwest by the Oruro Department, and on the northeast by the municipality of Tinguipaya.

Geography

The municipality covers an Urmiri 1300 km ² large sparsely populated plateau between the city of Potosí in the southeast and the Poopó Lake in the northwest, which is intersected by numerous rivers. Throughout the year, the temperatures move across during the day near the frost line, significant precipitation falls during the summer months, so that many of the rivers in winter mostly dry fall.

Population

The 2001 census has a population of 2,025 inhabitants of the municipality. The life expectancy of newborns is 53 years, the literacy rate for those over 15 years at 68 percent, and the proportion of the urban population in the municipality is 0 percent.

Central location of the district is the town Urmiri 300 inhabitants ( 2001 census ) in the northeast part of the municipality.
