Vaivre-et-Montoille

Vaivre -et- Montoille is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté. It belongs to the agglomeration Vesoul.

Geography

Vaivre -et- Montoille situated at an altitude of 223 m above sea level, about 4 km west of the city of Vesoul (air line). The village is located in the central part of the department, in the Basin of Vesoul on the southern edge of the wide valley of Durgeon, at the northern foot of the plateau Camp de César.

The area of ​​8.48 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the pelvic region of Vesoul. The northern border is the middle of the alluvial plain of the Durgeon, which provides for drainage west to the Saône. The plane is on average 215 m and has a width of around four kilometers on. In this level, the Lac de Vaivre, a 1973 scale and around 93 ha large lake is located. From the valley floor, the municipality's area extends southward over a 150 m high, steep wooded slope up to the plateau of the Camp de César and the Bois de Noidans. The municipal boundary is at the top of this escarpment, which is marked in several places by rocky outcrops and projections of the resistant limestone. With 380 m of the Camp de César is achieved the highest elevation of Vaivre -et- Montoille at the edge. While chalky on the lower slopes and sandy- marly sediments emerge the lower Jurassic period ( Lias ), there is a plateau of limestone of the middle Jurassic period.

The double municipality consists of the villages Vaivre (224 m) at the northern foot of the Camp de César and Montoille (215 m) in the plane of Durgeon west of the Lac de Vaivre. Neighboring communities of Vaivre -et- Montoille are Grattery and Pusey in the north, Vesoul in the east, Noidans -lès- Vesoul and Chariez in the south and Montigny- lès- Vesoul in the West.

History

Is first mentioned Vaivre in the year 1143. During the Middle Ages the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The local government has held the noble family of Vaivre whose existence is occupied from the 12th to the 17th century. 1674 went suzerainty over to the French king. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Montoille belonged to the Knights Templar of Sales. To a field change occurred in 1807, when Montoille (1806: 209 inhabitants) and Vaivre to today's double municipality merged. Attractions

The church of Saint -Christophe was extensively rebuilt from 1738 to 1771, the choir from the 12th century and a chapel from the 16th century from the old building were integrated. It houses a rich interior, including the baroque main altar ( late 17th century ) and numerous statues and grave slabs. Two stone wayside crosses are dated to the years 1633 and 1733. The Mairie ( Town Hall) is housed in a large house of Seguin de Jallerange from the 18th century. The old center of Vaivre is characterized by houses from the 17th century, showing the traditional style of the Haute -Saône.

Population

With 2267 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Vaivre -et- Montoille one of the larger towns in the Haute- Saône. Once the population has consistently had in the first half of the 20th century in the area of ​​500-570 people, a strong population growth was recorded from 1968 to 1999. The settlement area of Vaivre -et- Montoille has grown together today almost completely with those of Vesoul and Noidans -lès- Vesoul.

Economy and infrastructure
