History

V.A.M. was formed in 1963 from the state owned SOMEX ( Sociedad Mexicana de Credito Industrial ) and the Willys -Overland importer Willys Mexicana SA

Willys Mexicana S. A. existed since 1946 and was responsible for the import of Willys -Overland SUV. Among other things, the company had acquired the license rights for the production of AMC Rambler and importing all the other vehicles in the AMC. With the merger of the two companies, the Mexican government was forced to purchase new license rights. About negotiations, which took only a short time, he obtained full license rights to build the vehicles of the AMC Group.

Body parts have been supplied by the American Motor Corporation. Interiors and engines produced the Traffic & Automotores Mexicanos SA The sporty versions wore itself, as with AMC in the United States, nicknamed the SST.

In order to improve its position in the Mexican market, negotiated VAM 1970 with the French Renault S. A. There were negotiated licenses for the construction of small cars. Models

  • VAM Willys Jeep (1963 ): The VAM Willys was offered in different versions. The demand for this model came mostly from the military, police stations, airports and border police.
