Vélines

Vélines ( Occitan: Velinas ) is a southwestern French village with 1114 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the Dordogne in the Aquitaine region.

Location

Vélines lies at an altitude of about 70 meters above sea level. inst in the west of the department of Dordogne. The nearest major town is about 36 km ( driving distance ) located east of Bergerac, the capital of the arrondissement.

Demographics

Even in the 19th century, the community had mostly between 700 and 900 inhabitants.

Economy

In earlier times, the residents of the community lived as subsistence agriculture, which included the wine and a little livestock. Since medieval times part of the wine produced in the area was shipped in barrels and on rafts or barges over the Dordogne and the ports of the Gironde to England. History

The Romanesque church suggests an occupation of the site since at least the Middle Ages. The old village name was Montrevel.
