Vélo d'Or
The award Vélo d'Or (French for Golden Wheel ) is considered a tribute to the world's best cyclist of the season. The election by international sports journalists is organized annually by the French cycling magazine Vélo Magazine since 1992.
The election of the world cyclist of the year also illustrates the prominent position of the Tour de France as the most important cycling race in the world: Often the winner of the Tour landed on one of the two first places.
