Peter Sagan

Peter Sagan ( born January 26, 1990 in Žilina) is a Slovak cyclist. He is the younger brother of Juraj Sagan.

Career

As a junior rider Peter Sagan was successful both in cyclocross as well as in mountain bike cross country and on the road. Among his most important successes in Cyclocross counted the Slovakian champion title in 2007, the bronze medal at the European Championships in 2007 and silver at the World Championships in 2008. According bronze at the Mountainbike European Championships 2007 in Cappadocia 2008 he was World and European champion in cross country. On the road, he won the 2007 Slovak Cup and one each stage in the International 3- Stages Tour in Frankfurt and at the Trofeo Karlberg. In 2008 he won the Croatian tour Kroz Istru.

In the men's range, Sagan focused on the road and started the 2009 season for the Slovak cycling team Dukla Trencin Merida, for the 2010 season, he joined the UCI ProTeam Liquigas. In his first ProTour stage race, the Tour Down Under 2010, he finished third and fourth stage space. At Paris-Nice 2010, he was able to confirm these initial successes and won the points classification in addition to two stages and thus his first two races at ProTour level.

In the course of 2010 and the following years he won - mostly in the Sprint - numerous one-day races and stages. Its outstanding results in 2011 included the overall victory in the Tour of Poland and his three stage wins at the Vuelta a España. In 2012, he won three stages and green jersey of the Tour de France. In 2013 he was able in 2013 to defend the points classification in the Tour de France and successfully took out a victory. Regarding one-day race he won in 2013 Gent- Wevelgem with for the first time a major classic - after many second places.
